Colors

John’s appointment today took us to Montecito, always a treat.  I took a walk and got waylaid at a pricey shop nearby where I considered buying a colorful scarf, then walked to the Biltmore without it.

Oceanside, on this fuzzy gray day, a crow and I stood and listened with deep delight to the soothing waves rolling ashore.

Turning 180′ the opposite direction from the view above, these seven uniformed gardeners are not noticing the gray day behind them, focusing instead on industriously adding pots of color to the elegant Biltmore.

On my way back to meet John I bought us hot chocolate with whipped cream, yummy and very unusual for me to do – and yes, I also stopped by the shop and bought the colorful scarf!

Magic

I found one of Anne’s pix from our airport sunset that she didn’t share, and it overflows with magic that more words would only delay.

Over, then Over Again

Two posts from us in one day, but I have more to add:

The flying was FUN today!  Short but exciting – and another brilliant day.  It’s been so cloudy, foggy of late that the clear air is exhilarating.

The fresh sourdough bread was yummy and took me back many years when I made bread regularly while living in the Carnation farmhouse on the Snoqualmie River in Washington state.  That was before breads got good in stores.  Nancy brought a sourdough starter she made from the organic chardonnay grapes she got at the Santa Ynez winery, Alma Rosa, our fave! [Note from John: my recollection of Nancy’s story is that she used that hazy coating you see on grapes, that’s actually a yeast, and she’s used the haze from plums before too.]

She asked if I’d be a “tester” for an article she’s writing for Edible SB. She reminded me of how one develops a “relationship” with the starter. Well our relationship is off to a great start, this starter and me, and the first loaf came out beautifully!

The little holes are done with scissors before baking.  Next, I’ll play with the shapes.

Well, the Texture looks about perfect to me, and the butter melting on it agreed.  Looks to me like the directions Nancy wrote will create many more happy bakers!

More bread in our future, with various accouterments 🙂

Sun, Moon, Wing

John has been offline and totally immersed. He bought a hard drive for more capacity for photos, but when installed his email got completely messed up and its been three days. So lest you think we’re disappeared, I’m excited to post photos from the 19th when we dropped by the airport to pet Tripp and check how she’d fared after our dramatic lightening thunderstorm the night before. She was indeed holding a bit in her belly so we tipped her clear and started watching the sunset which was Incredible. John’s photos are better but here are some from my point & shoot. First is John shooting next to our car and plane on the ramp at Santa Barbara Airport, plane & car doors open perusing each other:

Here is what we were looking at, and it kept changing by the second:

Yes, at the bottom of the frame is our plane wing, but be reassured I’m not wing- walking! I took this from the ground.

Many happenings this weekend and John may be back online 🙂

Dropping into Bishop

What a day!  After flying toward Mt Whitney close to sunset, we flew on north to Bishop.  Next morning I ran to get my camera as this helicopter hovered before landing.  So wanting to get him mid-air, but too late, yet still loved the action of the dust billowing around him, close to our parked plane.
