Color Carpets

Colorful carpets suddenly popped into view over Lompoc this weekend, this one delightfully out my side of the plane.

The color was remarkable and I love the shapes that form that would not be obvious from a ground view.

The birds-eye views we are so fortunate to view are truly spectacular.

Views from above sometimes reveal shapes reminiscent of other shapes and this yellow one reminds me of a map of Idaho, reversed.  Every flight is so enchantingly different, one from the other…

3 Santas

Hi View, Low Tide

Hi, Anne here – You’ll notice a difference in quality from John’s but I thought I’d add a post from our short but delicious flight.  As we rose today I felt amazingly blessed with what a lovely and unique area we get to fly with its of combination of fields, towns, hills, mountains, ocean, islands – all so visible immediately upon takeoff.

My newer point & shoot camera is substandard for the motions of the plane, but here are my favorites.  The green fields and orchards are actually the major part of this view.  This shows some of the city of Goleta and looks back toward the airport we’d just left and, at the coast, Isla Vista & UCSB, with SB in the very far distance.

The coastal tide was really Low as we flew above today and the striations in the sea floor appealed to me.  A fun surprise was seeing the reflection in Tripp’s wheel cover in the bottom right – not only the light from the low sun, but also the cowl and nose wheel of Tripp herself!

The swirls of ocean floor were so visible today:

What a delightful flight!  I’m sure John will share more of this flight in a day or two as he got some great and totally different views from his camera and side of the plane…

Patterned Paintings

As John was flying May around her hometown of Portland and vicinity, I noticed lovely patterns from my side, and liked the diverse angles on this one.   Are the pattens planned, I wondered?  Do the farmers have an eye to the sky?  Do they consciously plant intriguing designs?  Or does the magic of the overview from up high sort the rows and furrows to create a patterned painting?

This one was planted with more symmetry – and portrays proverbial greener pastures around a golden center.

Hope expanded

John showed some of Hope Ranch in his last bog post, and I’m adding a photo I took the same day.   These were on 7-9-11, the day royals William and Kate came to the Santa Barbara Polo Club in Carpinteria, and we took a flight to see what we could capture.

When on the east coast, the homes and properties in the area around White Plains, in Westchester county, NY made these places in Hope Ranch seem small…

As we continued our flight toward the polo grounds, I enjoyed this view taken back across my, co-pilot seat, right shoulder

So, the places at Hope Ranch are lovely, but in terms of overall space, I think Oprah’s mansion in Montecito outdoes them all.  The spout in upper photo is actually a tall fountain on a lake in her back yard, and you can see how the property extends further out of sight at the top.  Well, there is another lake, unseen in this photo, that would be further below the photo, thus her front ‘yard’ is quite large.  It looks out across an expanse to the ocean, of course, something the Westchester folks don’t have!  Oh, and the pool on the right side of this photo is not someone else’s place – it is at Oprah’s poolside Guest house.

Pretty amazing place. What do you think?
