Spiral

It can be fun to explore synchronicities, and to contemplate what we attend (as in notice and/or take pix of). I realized that two of my fav recent pix evoke an intense almost dizzying spiral energy in me.

0797~3131 Spirals

0797~3131 Spirals

So I googled “spiral” just now, and the first hit is a movie we’ll get from the library. The second hit is the wiki entry, and I skipped down to the symbolic meanings: “a symbol of the process of dialectic” and an excerpt there: “central to both Indic and Western philosophy since ancient times. …dialogue between two or more people who may hold differing views, yet wish to pursue truth by seeking agreement with one another.”

It turns out that in the relative silence of our life since the Citizens election campaign, Anne and I have been engaged in an especially deep, sweet, challenging and fruitful ongoing dialectic. Kinda cool to “feel” something in the pix and find this context.

Another “hit” I’m getting internally is about Chumash meaning in spiral forms. So I googled “spiral chumash counter-clockwise” and the first hit was an essay with two bits that resonate. First a reference to how low pressure systems make a counterclockwise spiral (a common feature related to aviation weather), the other mentions a Yogic tradition that “counterclockwise flow is the unfolding or dissolution of matter into energy.” I’m certainly experiencing some energy flow!

In a dream last night, Tripp’s number came in. You may recall it’s 66111, and that seems to have strong significance in ways I don’t understand. That entire number is the end of my pilot license number, assigned in 2006 and not consciously noticed until long after we bought Tripp 1/23/10. I graduated high school in 66, and that number has resonated for me over the years. In the dream there was something about 111 related to a date, maybe 1/11 (New Year’s Day) or Jan. 11? Anyway, it all seems worth noting so I can re-read this if anything else comes up, or perhaps sometime next year.

Further down the hit list is an Ojai item about a Chumash ceremony where “a screech owl swooped overhead.” On a quiet night in Santa Ynez recently a great horned owl (a bird I have associated with my father) called me and I walked to within 15 feet. We looked at each other intently before I tried to speak owl and he flew away in disgust. Two nights this week in different parts of town a screech owl has flown low over my head and called. I’ve heard them a few other times over the years, but never in flight. Coincidence? The item linked in this paragraph ends, “everything is a process of spiritual growth.” That’s been my core focus since soon after switching my life focus from technology to psychology.

Further down the hit list is an essay by Harry Marriner I’m going to read and contemplate more. “Many North American Indian cultures associate counterclockwise spirals (starting from the center) with the concept of rising, and the clockwise spiral with the concept of descending.” Earlier tonight I had noticed that one of my two spiral themed pix above is looking down into the water, the other up into the sky.

OK, enough of my inward spiral for now. Next post I’ll be back to “normal” for you. 😉

Both Sides Now

That old Joni Mitchell song is one of my favs, and I’ve always enjoyed cloudwatching. Now that we’ve flown Tripp among and above them, that enjoyment has only increased. Tonight’s sunset walk brought more fun cloudwatching. This one first got our attention when a jet climbing out of LAX emerged from it.

The air outside the cloud was dry, so the jet trail ends close to the cloud. I like how the cloud, up at 16,000 feet, is still in full sun while you can see the orange glow on the foreground tree here close to sea level. Just four minutes later the cloud has changed completely and the tree is bathed in even more orange glow.

You can still make out the jet trail at the left, and the cloud was markedly further away. When we got home I looked it up, and winds up there were at least 50mph. Two more minutes and it had changed even more, with a new low cloud forming down in the sunset glow.

Looking the toward the sunset rather than away, other little puffs were forming for our entertainment.

3323 More Puff Clouds

Seven minutes after the first pic, the first cloud had moved perhaps seven miles away and was now alive with various sunset shades.

Such a beautiful world! Every moment a new miracle.

Back Again

I distracted into looking back again at pix from our 10/10 flight to San Diego, and found yet more to share. Here’s the Solana Beach and Del Mar area.

On the large version of the pic you can make out the race track this side of the lagoon. In the closer shot below, click to see the relatively large number of people walking the sandy shallows at the creek mouth.

Near the hang glider/ultralight spot, nude beach, and UCSD there are some fancy buildings perched on sandy bluffs. The glass one looks like some sort of upscale display case. Pretty cool architecture.

At last, over Mount Soledad we turned toward Montgomery Field to prepare for landing. There was just time to snap this hazy view of the skyline as we began our descent. I’ve uploaded a larger image than usual for this blog, so if you click to view the largest version of this it may show some detail. The ship at the left end of the Coronado Bridge is at SIMA where we once taught advanced computer classes for Navy techs.

The tip of massive Lindberg Field shows at the right below the bay, and reminds me of the fun we had landing there with Molly & Dustin. Above that is the tip of Coronado Island leading to the Strand beyond. I once rode my bike along the Mission Valley green belt (foreground) from Mission Gorge to the beach. They’ve been restoring the river front and adding more access, so it’s probably even nicer now than when we lived there. Such a fun flight it was, and the return trip on a slightly different route brought new adventures but no more pix so you’ll just have to imagine. 🙂

Walk in the Park

We enjoyed a varied walk in SB’s Oak Park this evening. First clambering along the creekbed, then across the grass where the trees framed a magnificent view of the mountains still in the sun.

Ever playful, Anne clambered inside a hollow tree to vamp for the camera.

In the quiet shadows of Oak Park with sun still glinting on treetops beyond, we huddled at the footbridge to enjoy the old tree it frames so nicely.

3141 Bridge to Branch

Talking quietly, we recalled this same bridge on bright summer days flowing with people coming and going at one or another of the annual ethnic festivals. A whiff of fine cuisine wafting among the branches at the French Festival. Memories of paradise.

Magic

I found one of Anne’s pix from our airport sunset that she didn’t share, and it overflows with magic that more words would only delay.
