Detail

I watched the Ty Warner estate being built in recent years, and marveled at his ability to buy several really nice mansions so he could demolish them all and have this put in.

So it was a surprise to snap a telephoto shot of the pond, and discover this unusual detail that’s probably been there for some time.

Maybe I can get a better shot sometime, but to me this fountain looks like a dragon rather than an alligator. The fish don’t seem troubled by it, and I like how it fits the whole jungle motif. So fascinating what people do with essentially unlimited resources. In this case it all started with designing and selling toys.

Other Tenth

I seem to recall a cliche something like, “How the other half lives” being used in relation to the wealthy. Maybe it’s from old movies about the thirties? The catch phrase now is some variation on, “The ten percent.” Well I don’t know what fraction or percent these mansions house, but I like looking at them.

Many of the mansions in Hope Ranch are magnificent. In this shot I especially like the tuscan yellow with colorful bougainvillea upper-right, and the white one with vineyard and corral bottom-right. In this wider shot you can see the yellow one center-left.

The manses on the beach bluff of course have astounding views, and I like viewing them from this perspective because it reminds me of the much better view of their view out our other window. From this vantage point we have gazillion dollar views in every direction, but we pay by the hour. 🙂

E Flame

In honor of meeting Erin’s new flame last night, we saw this “E” shaped flame atop a tower on a hillside oil facility just East of Carpinteria. I just love the shape and color!

It was yet another spectacular day for flying in paradise. Maybe some day we’ll get tired of this, but not today!

Shaded Path

We took a walk up the shaded path from Stevens Park along the creek toward the mountains, and we relaxed.

Pausing to enjoy this flowering shrub, we wondered if it’s related to one that sprang up in our front yard.

We like how close this park and trail are to where we live, and driving across the bridge that crosses high over the start of the trail. It’s not just the great views of mountains on one side and on the other side ocean (sometimes to the islands and beyond). Often we remember walks like this when we drive across. All this also makes the bridge relaxing to view from the air.

Shrinking

Sometimes I’m small-minded. I saw an aerial pic of a European city that had been made to look like a miniature, and have wanted to try it for a while. I finally wasted some time experimenting (“What? Read the directions?!”) and came up with these two. So does this look like something you might see on a detailed model railroad set?

I guess the sunset light throws it off a little, because few models are lit carefully enough to create these colors and soft shadows. How about this one?

To me it looks like something an inch or two tall, with incredible detail. Maybe I’m too close to the work tho. 🙂

Anyway, if you’re interested there’s some info on how I did them with the Edhat and Photo Page versions.
